At one of the SASC recent (last one or one before?), someone left a blueish travel mug (coffee?).

If you want it back, I've got it - picked up at the end of the day.  My apologies, I forgot about it until I noticed it recently at my place.

Let me know and we'll arrange how to get it back to you.

The following link provides you a link to a recent ASN-FiA Canada Solosport document including announcement of the 2015 CAC in Fort Macleod as well as some meeting notes.  Included are some rule issues among other things.  I would advise you to download it and read through the document:

Technical Talk / Course Design Seminar
« on: July 07, 2015, 10:27:12 AM »
OK - thinking next week Tues or Wed. evening - July 14 or 15 ... maybe a little over an hour.

Interest?  I'd like a "show of hands" here if you will please humour me ... to make sure this is worth doing.

The benefits?  You can gain better course "reading" skills or how to figure out what is a good line around a particular corner, how to design proper and legal courses, some basics of course design (e.g. what is a good distance to use for slaloms, offsets, what to avoid (e.g. lights, poles etc.), std. course design philosophy and proper layout of cones, width of gates, stop boxes (if used) ... what the rules say, how to avoid the sea of cones effect, and some common, practical rule-of-thumb good practices of proper course design etc. etc.).

I will check into facilities for this meeting.     Thanks to Paul, we will have this at NOV as noted below.  Microsoft Store in Chinook Mall is one location I will check into.  I am thinking 7 pm ff (which gives you time to get there after work and avoid traffic and not too late etc.)

Fixed date/time:  7 pm, Wed. July 15, 2015 at

NOV Completion & Production Solutions

SASC Events / July 25/26 - Course Designer(s) etc. needed
« on: July 07, 2015, 10:16:02 AM »
I will be out of town for the next events at Fort Macleod.

Hence, we will need someone to step up and do course designs for the practice and the championship (Saturday and Sunday).  You will also have to provide course maps for both days - I can provide a base map and sample course designs in autocad or pdf or jpg (etc.) formats ...

And, then we will need people to lead the morning driver's meetings and deal with any of the site issues while there - e.g. make sure there are tech forms, waivers, arrange for a novice course walk and discussion etc.

This does not have to be an individual but can be a separate course designer for each day, separate meeting leader etc. etc. ... This can be a team effort in other words!   :)

Also, I am intending on having a short course design seminar perhaps next week Wednesday ... stay tuned for further info.

Here's a handy reference for all the novices / newbies among us ... and heck, maybe even a few good tips for the rest of us!  This booklet is from CalClub (Los Angeles clubs).  :)

For all those newbies here (and the rest of us too!   Great little film Mr. Chiang did in San Diego as a part of a college project on autox):

SASC Schools / SASC Novice School _ this Sat. .. Apr 25
« on: April 24, 2015, 08:12:23 AM »
Hmmm....should announce this here:

A separate course will be laid out at the west end of the airport on Saturday ... same course as the last couple of years to have a quick novice school.  I though the course lay-out was fun ... :)

In any case, I may need a hand from some senior people particularly in the morning (we can even trade off ... or maybe make shifts of a couple hrs ... during which you can also use your own car for demo ride alongs) ... so pls see me at the site.

thx,

Reijo

Technical Talk / Novice Guide!

If you are new to autox, here's an autox guide in pdf format available on-line from the Los Angeles region friends that has a bunch of very useful information:
Link corrected:  March 19, 2017

(Above Link updated, April 3, 2018)

One of the key questions?   When to arrive:  Come before 8 am so you have time to empty your car, walk the course (multiple times is recommended in order to memorize it!), pump up and/or change your tires, and whatever other preparation you need to do ... or just come and hang out and talk cars and racing!

Or better yet, offer to lend a hand (we all need help!) setting up the course, chalking the course, etc. or other tasks that need to be done at the beginning of the day.  There is no better way to get to know people better than to work with them!   :)

Other Events / Crow's Landing (San Fran.) Tour - our locals now!

Wayne Dyck is in CS and the Zelazos in their respective SSM classes  (SSML runs 3rd heat, but I do not see SSM???   Strange... however I see SSR twice ... 1st and 4th heats.... think Jay might be in the 1st heat since they usually place open and ladies classes at least a couple heats apart) ... they are running now and Wayne is in the 2nd heat,

Roger has apparently updated his booklet - free pdf download here:

http://www.houscca.com/solo/courses/Course_Design_4-1-2.pdf

Anyone up for doing some course designs this year?  Ryan did a great job at the end of the year last year coming up with something interesting.

I know for myself it is easy to fall into a trap of designing similar (style is what it is I guess?) courses and particularly with the limitations we have due to the narrowness of the airport.

Sometimes it is good to have fresh ideas on course design.  I am also happy to help out to ease the "pain" and can provide base mapping for your use, of course!   ;)
