SASC Events / 2015 SoloPro Schools
« on: March 11, 2015, 03:52:20 AM »
Date:  May 30/31, all day both days ... start at 8 am sharp (UNO)   Sat. Intro, Sun. Comp, Extreme both days.

Cost IS $330 per day (to be confirmed - we are facing some new cost with the low Cdn. dollar and additional government fees - CONFIRMED - MAY 11, 2015).

Intro, Comp and possibly Extreme.

If you have not done one of these schools before it is recommended to progress from Intro to Comp to Extreme although any of them can be taken multiple times to get even more out of them (like I did ... you are taught at whatever level or capability you are at and hence the lessons change to suit you to deal with whatever we need to work on).  You might also say, just like in any sport, you never get away from regularly practicing the basics and refining them continually!  Your basics must be firmly established in order to progress.

We are working on some changes to the curriculum as a part of ongoing development as we speak.

Info on schools here:
http://www.soloprodrivingschool.com/

Also PM me (here or on one of the other FB or CSCC web sites  -include your real name and email)  to let me know what schools you are interested in, in order to gage interest.

There are a number of us planning to go - Jay, Ryan C, Tim, moi, Ashley, David G. and a future resident of Calgary - Stephen Hui from Seattle ... Did I miss anyone?

It's a great way to get an early start on the season!   :)

SASC Schools / Final Winter Driver Training - Sunday March 15
« on: March 02, 2015, 12:53:22 PM »
Please spread the word around that there is plenty of room in the last one.

The morning classroom starts at 8 am at the Day's Inn in Cochrane and then the training on the lake at about 9:30 am.

With the recent cold spell, we have over 2' of ice  so we should be good even if we get some significant Chinook between now and then ...

Registration is available like usual at Motorsportreg.com - just look for SASC and you will see the membership and the March 15th event available to sign up.

Cheers!

SASC Schools / The original 2013 Winter Driver Training video!
« on: January 17, 2015, 02:11:24 AM »
I spoke with Alan Kwok who did the original video work for the SASC Winter Driver Training and he kindly re-loaded the original version (I doubt many have seen this one) that was done.

One of the interesting comments we had concerning the other video came from participants and instructors alike that all the cars seemed to be fancy (Porsche etc) cars, which resulted in the impression that this was some sort of exclusive requirement and that people with ordinary cars could not participate. This, of course, is far from the truth!

Anyway, here's the original - thanks Alan! Enjoy!

(NOTE:  You will have to click on the video link again and watch it directly on Vimeo on-line)

One thing will be different for these dates:   The Days Inn convention room is not available and the Microsoft Store (thanks Sabina!) has been kind enough to let us use their facilities for the classroom session.

The classroom sessions, however, will take place on the evening before the Ghost Lake driving (Saturday evening - Feb. 7 and 21, 2015).  Therefore the classroom session will begin at 7 pm at the Microsoft Store (opened in August 2014) and it is located inside the Chinook Mall on Macleod Trail.  The store is located at the north end of the mall on the lower level and right next to Nordstroms (formerly Sears).

You will find our session on the Microsoft Store schedule and the meeting room is at the back of the store:

And then on Sunday morning (Feb. 8 and 22) we will meet at the south parking lot of Ghost Lake 8:30-9:00 am to sign waivers(if not signed the night before), break up into groups etc.
Then out onto Ghost Lake to begin training shortly thereafter 9:10 am (estimated).

SASC Schools / Schedule for Winter Driver Training this coming weekend.
« on: December 24, 2014, 11:55:24 AM »
I have checked around some more and am pretty confident we will be a "go" this weekend.

I have some new schedules, maps and other stuff made up.   These will be handed out on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Each day will begin at 8 am at the Day's Inn Cochrane at 8 am (for set-up those people will have to be there earlier).

On Saturday, all the instructors should be at the Day's Inn at 8 am for the power point presentation etc. so we are all familiar with what goes on.  Following that we will go to Ghost Lake and set up the courses (mostly new layout and procedures will be in place for this year - more compact, simplified and easier to set up .... with a more logical progression for the students for the day).  We will practice setting them up and then do a bit of training ourselves - more detail will be discussed at the Day's Inn.   We will also discuss the Sunday schedule and set-up etc. during Saturday.

Generally the day goes from 8 am to 4 pm with a lunch at Ghost Station each day.   Note that they also have premium, regular and diesel fuels available there and will be open all winter.  Their prices are competitive with Cochrane so no need to drive further!

Cheers!

The ice appears to have thickened up a little bit (13 1/2" today) over the last few days .... no snow ....  Check the SASC Face Book Page for photos.

I also saw a Nissan 4x4 on the north side of the bridge on the ice .... so obviously enough for him ... and some tracks from a vehicle on the south side.

The few days of colder weather will be perfect to seal up the crack at the boat ramp ....

ALSO, the Ghost Lake gas station and store is open all winter with new owners ..... They will have pizza and/or chili for us for lunch ....   They also have reg, premium and diesel fuel there ... plus all kinds of other goodies including booze for sale ... sort of a country general store - under new owners.

I'm 99% sure we'll be a go this weekend.   :)

SASC Schools / Registration for the Dec. 28 Student edition!
« on: December 22, 2014, 08:01:32 AM »
We have opened up the Motosportreg.com registration for the Student Winter Driver Training (Thanks Murray!!).   Some people are already signed up.

I had an unofficial wait list with about 20 people on it.   I believe I have contacted everyone who has messaged me.

In case I somehow missed getting back to you and you need the link to sign up on-line, please send me an email (rase_usa@yahoo.com) and I will email you the link.

Thanks,

Reijo
