Was just at the airport, the billboard on the lot is advertising outdoor rentals “contact events@steinbock.ca”. I don’t remember seeing it before, is that new?

I would never entertain trying to rent a lot from CP at all....

I think the big lot in that area might belong to Hansen's (car transport company) which would have fluctuating inventory/space requirements. It might be worth looking into.

*edit* the asphalt looks terrible from the satellite view

What would be a good estimate for minimum lot size?

I'm pretty sure it's too small, and a long shot but if you look at satellite view of Spruce Meadows on google maps it looks like they've been hosting something auto related in lot 7 or 8.

This seems like an appropriate place to post this...

I just wanted to say that today's event was (IMO) significantly better than the last at FM, the changes made by the club execs made a big difference in how the day proceeded and made for a much better experience. 9 runs in a group of 30+ is more than I've ever had there, and the flow of the day was so much smoother than before. Thanks for opening the discussion after last event and making changes to improve everybody's experience.

A good place to start is the SCCA rules which have car classing information, main rules document is here: https://www.scca.com/downloads/41816-2018-07-30-solo-rules-book-2e-reduced/download

There's also a cheat sheet for modifications allowed in each class: https://www.scca.com/downloads/42006-2018-07-26-quick-reference-of-category-allowances/download

There's also some helpful info in this recent thread: http://forums.sascsolo.com/index.php?topic=1135.0

There's also a lot of info regarding how the season works and how to register for events here: http://forums.sascsolo.com/index.php?topic=1011.0

Are we doing setup on Friday like usual or just Saturday morning (per the schedule on MSReg)?

Several complaints are about the venue (commute, weather, whatever), we can't do anything about that but I think we could improve upon running the events more efficiently (any time a car isn't on course is time spent on stuff we're not specifically here for). Just throwing out some ideas of varying feasibility:

I think this starts with getting the course set up completed earlier as there's a lot of people standing around waiting for course walk. I'm not sure what the limiting factor is here, maybe more volunteers on setup?

Make sure the first car leaves the start right at 10:00, I think we started around 10:20 which doesn't seem like much but 20 minutes is a lot of runs.

Switchover time is generally long due to the distance from the turnaround. Everybody would have to work together on this to cut it down (i.e. use 4 seater cars to shuttle and pick up people on the way in). Make sure cars are ready to go too, so you can get to your car hop in and move to grid.

Course design: Could we do something to make more course near where the pits are to lengthen the time on course with two cars running? Ideally, you would want the sweeper to be the midpoint of the course. Moving the pits to the end of the runway might gain some real estate to make this work, but the cable is still there. I'm not very familiar with what goes into course design, it may be too tight to throw another element or a figure 8 in there.

Is there a way to improve on lunch break? If everybody packed a lunch it could be shortened, but does that appeal to everybody or would they rather the break?

Just throwing out some ideas we can build off of.

For my $0.02 on whether or not I would attend more or less events, I would probably attend the same but feel I get better value out of YYC both in dollars and hours when for $10 more on a much shorter day (commuting from Calgary) I can get up to 10 runs vs 5 we got this weekend.

As an aside, attitude goes a long way here too; keep in mind that you're there to have fun and hang out with some people with similar interests, enjoy the time there and remember that the end goal isn't just to rush home at the end of the day.

Kendra and Patrick are listed in an STH 2009 Honda Fit, but the Fit isn't eligible for STH -- it should be in STS.

There were two different Fits; mine was fine where it was in HS.

As far as your car being prepared, a good place to start is the self tech form, a copy of it can be found here:https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/event.requirements/uidEvent/7B8486DE-CD3F-483F-E425E736EA43825E

Your vehicle will also have to undergo a tech inspection the morning of, but ultimately you are responsible to check your vehicle. Make sure you check your oil level, I don't think it's on the tech sheet but pretty important to check before putting your car through its paces.

You also should have a helmet that complies with any of these standards:
•   FIA 8860-2004
•   FIA 8860-2010
•   Snell 2015 SA, or 2015 M
•   Snell 2010 SA, 2010 SAH, or 2010 M
•   Snell 2005 SA, or 2005 M (expiry 31.12.2018)
•   SFI Foundation 31.1/2015
•   SFI Foundation 31.1/2010
•   SFI Foundation 31.1/2005 (expiry 31.12.2018)

Loaner helmets are available if you don't have one.

That's pretty much the bare minimum, more is covered in the link Rob posted. If you're lost on the day of, someone will help you out, everybody was new at some point.

Other things to consider bringing for your first time off the top of my head: sunscreen, hat, tape (for numbers), water, lunch/snacks (restaurants nearby), air pump, tire pressure gauge and dress for the weather.

You should also have a good idea what class your car is in, will save time at tech.

My 'ruck is dead so we would need someone to pick up some of the "instant" asphalt filler from Home Depot on Country Hills Blvd so we can fill in the hole ... It can be driven on immediately after placing and compacting (you can use a truck or other vehicles to pack it down, btw.

I have a pickup and spare time (currently unemployed) so I can definitely help out with repairs. My asphalt experience doesn't go far beyond knowing which end of the shovel to hold so I probably need some supervision here.

Do we have a water supply at the lot or would we need to bring our own?
