For Immediate Release:

Registration Nearing for Out of This World 2016 Tire Rack Solo Nationals

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 8, 2016) – It's that time again. The September 5-9 Tire Rack Solo Nationals, presented by Garmin VIRB, are rapidly approaching. As such, registration for the year-end competition and party will open to everyone Wednesday, June 15 at 3pm Central Time on the Tire Rack Solo Nationals webpage.

Registration for this year's event will be $170 per entrant, with the event capped at 1,350 participants. Keeping in mind that the 2015 Tire Rack Solo Nationals welcomed more than 1,225 contestants, interested parties should not dally when it comes to reserving a spot at this well-attended competition. August 10 is when late fees will begin to be assessed for those registering for the event. Howard Duncan, SCCA Senior Director of Solo and Rally, said the late registration price is $300 per entry.

"This will be the 44th running of the Tire Rack Solo Nationals," Duncan said. "This year's theme will be 'Cone Encounters.' What does this sci-fi theme entail? You'll just have to register for the Tire Rack Solo Nationals and come have fun with us at Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, Nebraska to find out."

Following open registration, group paddock requests will be accepted beginning June 29 for groups of five or more. Each person in the request must be pre-registered for the event at the time of the request. July 13 will be the close for group registrations before the paddock reservation process opens July 20 to the general membership. People must be registered for the Tire Rack Solo Nationals to earn a paddock spot. August 24 is then when event and paddock registration will close.

Another important deadline is July 13 for first-come, first-serve tent reservations where Regions or Divisions can construct "Landing Zones" for social gatherings. Such requests must be emailed to Brian Harmer at bharmer@scca.com. This year there will be seven 20'X30' tents and two 30'X30' tents available.

Last but not least, the run/work order will be published August 17, and August 29 is the last day to receive a partial refund for cancellation. More information can be found at the Tire Rack Solo Nationals webpage.

I'm sooooo tempted to try and attend this year. But cash is tight these days and Packwood/top gun events are going to eat up more than just our event costs of the budget.

It is tough because I know the last thing to do is delay. I could really go for the fly in and co-drive. Anyone know where to try and search out owners that want a co driver?

Jo and I aren't going to attend this year, but I *really* recommend thaqt you go to Packwood and/or Lincoln.  It's not some holy grail or anything like that, but what it does is give you a solid feel for the pointy end of this sport.  Believe it or not, you will probably discover that you aren't that bad or different -- just a bit shy of that "edge" that you need to compete at a national level.

I'm from Seattle and could send a message to the local mailing list for you if you'd like. You could also join the list yourself here: http://lists.wwscc.org/mailman/listinfo/nwautox.

Also, I second Murray's suggestion that you and everyone else try a Packwood event, or the U.S. Nationals. The Packwood Tour and Pro are each about three times the size of our local events and at least three times as intense; U.S. Nationals is more than twenty (!) times the size of our local events, and at least twenty times as intense. :)

Some videos to whet your appetite:

Lincoln (the U.S. Nationals site) is really, really big: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPa4xA5PRvA

There was another short one in 2011 that I have not seen before by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce ... notice that Jay was in his green Exige at 0:28 ff of the video:

I agree as well.  Plus, in addition to being more intense they are just as friendly if not moreso.  In fact a few years ago the CP class performed an engine swap on a competitors car between the ladies class running and the open class.  20+ guys all wrenching to get the car back out in under 2 hours.

On my to-do list for whenever I get in to a more competitive vehicle.  Would be a great experience.

From Keith Brown, who's coordinating Northwest Region's paddock (which we're normally a part of):

Quote
Hey folks,

Registration opened today for Solo Nationals in Lincoln, yes it is still a long way away, but planning begins now!

If you are going to Lincoln and would like to be part of the NWR compound in the paddock I need some information from you:

Your name
Tow Rig size , if you have one
Trailer size, if you have one
who is driving with you
if you would like to share space with someone specific.
Are you staying on site?

Please send this information to me directly, not to the list...  thanks

ALSO and MOST IMPORTANT

You MUST be registered prior to June 29 to be included in the group paddock space...   Paddock reservations for groups opens on the 29th and I want us to be able to get a good spot with enough size, and I need your assistance.

Please spread the word to folks that are not on this email list, either here in the NWR, in Oregon, up north in Canada.

Thanks
Keith (self assigned NWR paddock marshal)

Keith's email address is his first initial followed by his last initial, followed by "_solo2@yahoo.com" without the quotes.
