June 17/18 WCMA Regionals help
« on: June 12, 2017, 11:35:15 AM »
Help!

Speaking of outlining, we will need some extra help on Friday and SAturday (after running) to set up the next day's courses ... including chalking/flour/outlining the course and even blowing/sweeping dust/debris etc. There is some extra work to do.

We'll let you know the exact time a bit later ....

I'm guessing after 4 pm on Saturday and probably the same approximate time on Friday (maybe earlier? ... for setup, pick up cones, layout of the course, sweeping/blowing the dust/marbles away), etc. etc.

A low chance of rain as per today's forecast (less than 1 mm - e.g. nothing to speak of and may not rain imo).

We'll wait to see how it changes as the week moves on.

Great thanks John!

I'll let everyone know right here on this topic.  We already have some people who have said they are coming - including the course designers Ryan and Q, I think Paul and someone else or two?

Thanks for letting me know, Paul.  I just did not remember who had mentioned to me about helping out ...

We will probably do setup early Friday evening/afternoon.  Say 7 pm ff?  That way we can avoid rush hour for everyone.  We will need about 2 hours to setup including moving the cones and equipment from storage to the lot.

I might actually go earlier since I have to pick up the key for the gate and drop off a check so that will have to be during business hours on Friday unless I make it there earlier in the week.

7pm sounds ideal.

Can anyone with a truck help to retrieve equipment from storage on Friday? Reijo has of course offered but his truck is not ideal and is currently in need of repair.

Great!  Thanks Cam!

Cam is bringing his truck so that is good!  One more or a SUV would not hurt since we have a number of helmets, boxes and the chalker (yes, we will be lining the course this weekend!) would not hurt since we have a bit more than usual to haul to the track ... only about 4 km but it is good if we can do it in one load.  And maybe one or two more people to help with distributing the cones, setup and chalking the cones and making the lines with the chalker .... and we even need a blower operator since we want to have a clean track for the first run on Saturday ... so a bit more work than usual.   Thanks for the help volunteered thus far!

I should add that setup is also a work assignment (plus tear down).  This is kind of convenient since it really frees up a bunch of time during running in case you have stuff to do on the car, extra time for lunch, taking photos or possibly even helping out on some special roles etc.

Reijo - I can help Friday afternoon and will try to get a gas blower!
Also can you send me a pdf of the Packwood course you set up at the YYC course last year - possibly use it for the Corvette Convention slalom there on August 6

I'll have my wagon along, lots of room in it for bins and helmets, etc.

Corvette convention at Packwood?

They really liked the course and I believe the Porsche club used it on the following weekend or so last summer.

Think we have enough people now.

We will have two chalking machines to operate, at least one blower (maybe two if Gary manages to get one).

We will need 4 people (2 x 2) for initial setting of cones (you will be given a setup map to assist).  Use the parking spots and relative location of the cones to set the cones (like usual).  Often I will remove the parking lines from the maps for the "public" for clarity and simplicity purposes.

The course designers will come behind and do the final tweaks to ensure they get the "effect" they are looking for.

We will need some people setting up grid cones (can be same ones from above I guess).

Barrier tape we may leave until Saturday morning if it is windy to prevent it blowing away.

And, lastly, we can all chip in and chalk the cone locations once done with setting them.
