Member Discussion (Private) / Ask the Executive
« on: January 11, 2019, 12:05:04 PM »
In the hope of be open with information as much as possible this thread is reserved for questions that any of our members have about regarding the club to the current Executive.

It would be great if people could come out to the monthly meetings but I know that's not always possible. If questions come up from the agenda and minutes from those meetings or anything else you can ask them here.

If you are not comfortable posting in here you can always PM me and we can discuss in that way also.

Thanks,
Adam

Member Discussion (Private) / 2019 Solo Venues
« on: January 11, 2019, 11:38:57 AM »
TL:DR

We will continue to use budget lot (YYC) in the early part of this season. Similar amount of events at Fort MacLeod this year as last. Potentially a third venue this year, but not solid yet as we need to meet with land owner.

Ask questions below.

Full Post

I wanted to start a separate topic on this. Some of you will have noticed that as part of January agenda we had discussion around venues and our 2019 schedule along with our application to Fort MacLeod for use of the airport.

I want to continue to share this information because I would rather our members stay well informed. At the same time I realize there wasn't enough context in the agenda to explain our thoughts on this. I thought I would try to provide and allow for an open discussion on this.

Currently we have a few people working extremely hard to obtain new venues. We've made some progress. We will be meeting with the owner of a potential venue (not in Calgary) late in January, and hopefully we are able to secure some usable space. Outside of that we have several other leads that are being chased, but nothing as positive as that. There has been a considerable amount of effort put towards this so far and continues to be.

The budget lot (YYC) will likely, based on inside information we have been able to obtain, continue to be available to us through the end of June, but we won't know until weeks before we host an event.

So, with that information we wanted to be a bit more aggressive in how many events we hosted at Fort MacLeod, just so we had some contingency on our season. So, the application that is in the drive folder under the minutes is super aggressive and we likely won't get all those days. What will likely happen is that we will be using YYC heavily until we can no longer while hosting the same amount of events we have in past years at Fort MacLeod. If the third venue works out we will be hosting a handful of events there also spread over the summer.

So, we anticipate this season to be similar to last season in the amount of events we host. Hopefully with three venues where we can sprinkle events around. A tentative schedule will likely be out in February, and firmed up a bit later on.

Any questions/discussions on venue or schedule you can put below. I will be starting a separate thread for questions on any other topic.

Automotive Marketplace / SOLD: Car Hauler - Diamond C 7GTF Trailer 18'
« on: September 17, 2018, 04:44:33 PM »

Well, I finally decided (after not using my trailer all summer) that I am going to sell it.

Diamond C 7GTF 18' Flat deck trailer
- Purchased from Aidrie Trailer in August 2015
- 3,500lb axles (7,000lb GVWR), trailer weights approximately 1650 lbs
- EZ Lube axles, never-adjust brakes on both axles
- Rear Beaver Tail
- Steel ramps with built in storage
-12 welded on D Rings in addition to stake pockets, making it easy to tire down any car from the tires
-Spare tire on rim

The trailer is in overall good shape, tires are showing some wear. It has driven across Canada twice. It has approximately 10,000km on it with those trips, and other trips to events. I have used it to trailer my S2000 since I purchased it.

$3,500

This price is only for SASC\WSC members, and I would rather see this go to a club member. At that I price will include the trailer with the following for club members:
- Tire basket straps (have some life left in them)
- Trailer pin lock, receiver lock and hitch pin lock kit (all the same key)
- 10" wide wooden tire ramps used to load and unload my car

Please pm me here if you are interested in the trailer and would like to see it.

The trailer will go on Kijiji later this month if there is no interest here. I am also selling my truck if you are looking for a full package, but may look at trading it in instead.  Thanks!

General Discussion / 2019 Mazda Miata ND2
« on: August 17, 2018, 10:27:56 AM »
Thought I would start a separate thread for this.

I called Sunridge Mazda to arrange a test drive on the 2019 ND2. I was told they don’t expect to stock them for 3 months. Not many answers beyond that, but I suspect they don’t want to take them in stock at the end of the convertible season likely.

I am going to check with a few other dealers in town.

Member Discussion (Private) / SASC Social Media Accounts
« on: June 27, 2018, 11:56:14 AM »
TLDR version: We have two new social media accounts, Instagram and a Facebook page, the facebook page is a different thing from the group we have, and I am currently managing them

Many of you have noticed that two social media accounts were setup this week in the SASC name on Instagram and Facebook. It had been discussed in past meetings about having a social media presence, and I had asked at the last meeting and got assigned with the job (just for asking). The goal of the social media accounts is to raise awareness of the club, and increase interest and participation in our events.

I felt that Instagram and Facebook were the preferred social media accounts because our sport is very visual and will focus heavily on photos and videos.

It you search @SASCsolo on facebook you will find the page and on instagram we are sasc_solo

The Instagram account is fairly straight forward, with daily posts (if I can keep generating content on past and current photos). While the facebook page I imagine can be a bit confusing since we currently have a facebook group.

Facebook groups are meant group discussion, much like this forum. Facebook pages are about outward facing advertising which includes news organizations, businesses, clubs and not-for-profit organizations such as ours. With the Facebook page the administrator is the only person that can create content, but can allow any to like or comment on that content. This is very similar to news sites many of us subscribe to. The facebook page will mainly be for cross posting of instagram photos, but may have it's own content. The really nice feature of the facebook page is that I get analytics on visitors, engagement, who clicks links, etc. It is really helpful to know what kind of reach the page is getting. Also, in the future if we want to do targeted advertising (sponsored), like you all have seen, we can with that page at a fairly low cost.

The strategy for the time being is to grow a following first with interesting local content. I have started to follow US SCCA clubs and they seem to only have 100-300 followers per club. Obviously larger groups like the SCCA have around 15k. With that kind of following, advertising of events, especially the special events will be really effective. With a large following our advertising is free.

In addition I imagine doing a few short live feeds on both facebook and instagram for things like driver's meetings, small snippets of events, and other things like that.  Live feeds and other things like that will be more effective when we have a larger following. It's tough for me to post too much during events with how busy it is, but I think it is an effective way of engaging people.

I am really wide open to any suggestions on content, hashtags I should be using, live content ideas. Anything at all really!

Any questions post them up here, or send me a separate message.

Automotive Marketplace / WTB: Trailer Storage
« on: April 16, 2018, 05:19:14 PM »
I am in the process of moving back to Calgary.  I have a 18 foot flat deck car hauler (22 foot total length) I am looking to store somewhere on a permanent basis.  I will be bringing it out at the end of May.

I expect be living in the NW closer to centre street, and would like to find a location within a 15 minute drive.  24 hour access isn't a big deal, as long as it is 7 days a week with normal hours, and a secure site.  Convenience = $, which I know, so I am flexible.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on locations, or even if you have space to rent I would be interested.

Someone had asked about this earlier in the month in the rules thread.  Thought I would update in a dedicated thread.

The location for the 2018 CAC is now officially up in the air.  The air field that is located north of London Ontario was the potential location, the board for the airport (which is owned and based in China) denied the proposal to host the event there after the local management had already agreed to hosting.  This has been conveyed to ASN and it is being discussed currently I believe.  Unfortunately the only other venue suitable in Ontario is the Picton Airfield, near Belleville, which is also for sale and unable to host. There is a real lack of large quality venues in Ontario currently.

Hopefully another venue can be secured quickly because it is getting late in the year to get this scheduled.  I am sure more will be heard on this in the near future.  It seems unlikely that it will stay in Ontario, but another club will need to step up.

General Discussion / Co-drive for Events 2, 3 and 4?
« on: March 19, 2018, 01:47:23 PM »
I will be arriving in Calgary at the beginning of April, but my S2K won't be coming from Ontario until the end of May.  I was hoping to potentially find a co-drive in a Street Class car preferably for the events on May 5/6 at YYC and May 12 in Fort MacLeod.  Although I am open to any offers on vehicles to run.

For those of you that do not know me, I previously participated in SASC club events in 2014 and 2015 before moving away from Calgary.  I have been autocrossing for 5 years now. I have run front, rear and all wheel drive cars so far.  I prefer a rear wheel drive car, after my most recent experience with the S2K, but I am open to anything.  Mostly I just don't want to wait till June to get started.

If you are interested, please PM me and we can discuss particulars.

Thanks,
Adam

Moderators: if this is in the wrong spot let me know and I will move.  Thanks!

My wife and I decided these past few months to return to Calgary.  We lived there from 2011 to 2015, and relocated back Ontario in 2015 so I could work in government. I decided it was enough of government and I will be returning next month, going back into engineering consulting in Alberta.  My wife and our 2 children will be following in late May or early June depending when living arrangements are sorted.

Last time I lived out there, I had a 2009 Subaru STi in ASP for a season then a 1990 Civic Si in STS for another season.  I will be bringing my 07 S2000 out with me (not until late May), which I will run in BS this year, and depending on my situation, possibly STR next year (or sell it and moving on, still deciding).  Currently the S2K is running a karcepts front bar, and OZ Alleggerita wheels in gold, depending on costs I may do a lightweight exhaust this year, but want to save the shocks depending on future years.  I have been participating the past 2 years in a local London Club and the Ontario region, as well as a few US events since I have been so close the past few years.

I look forward to actively participating in this club again.

Description: I have decided to put up my 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STi up for sale.  The car has been a blast because this was my dream car for some time, and I am happy to have owned it for the time I have.

I am the original owner of the vehicle and have all service records for the vehicle in a file 2" thick.  I have every receipt for every single modification on the car, and the original bill of sale.  The records can be included with the sale, after I have had a chance to run through it and take out personal information.  When I moved from Ontario in 2011 the car had 30,000km on it, it currently has 48,XXXkm on it and that does not increase quickly as I don't DD the car.

The car has been parted out.  Below is a list of the modifications which will remain with the car.

I have a carproof report for those that are interested.  Kijiji ad is here: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1065876708&paidedited=true&posted=true&featuredAdActivated=true&gaVirtualPageType=OrderSuccess&paymentMethod=CREDITCARD&invoice=ef1b61ff-e561-4d37-bedc-bcd4a2feafce&purchaseSuccess=true

The Good:
Low Kilometre
Clean title, no accidents
Strong engine, compression test and leakdown prior to pro-tune
Opti-coat applied last year, interior in fantastic condiiton

The Bad:

Will need a front brake job later this year or early next year
That's it really

The car has never seen a race track, but I did use it for 7 autocross events last season, and 4 ice racing events this season, which is why it needs a brake job at this point.  The car has been driven spiritedly otherwise.  This is a listing of what is on the car currently, I have noted what is not included and will be removed with the car.

Hi Everyone, my name is Adam.  I just started to Autocross this past year, and was competing in my 2009 Subaru STi.  Currently I am working with a co-driver to build a 1990 Honda Civic Si for next season and I will be ice racing my Subaru this winter.  I am excited to continue to participate in various forms of motorsports in the area.
