SASC Events / YYC Practice event?
« on: July 18, 2017, 03:38:23 PM »
Who's interested?

I am thinking a Tuesday or Wednesday evening.  Somewhat informal.

- Maybe 2 short courses - or 1 combined later?

- courses would emphasize some basic elements to work on - say a slalom course, a sweeper course etc. so that we can focus on special elements and "getting them right" ...

- instruction/coaching available.

- I  would also like to set up some video cameras (GoPro etc.) at certain parts of the course for follow-up analysis.

- data loggers?  Who's got one? ... should use it and see what we can learn.

- limited entry to ensure seat time

- working on focus and improvement, perfecting technique

- car setup can also be worked on since you are repeating elements.

Some or all of the above can be worked on - independently or otherwise.  Open to whatever here.

I'll bring this up in the meeting at the Glenmore auto circle A&W this evening - so drop by to discuss.

« on: July 14, 2017, 11:15:00 AM »
We have some of our locals running down there.  Live scoring and broadcast, run orders, entries and all kinds of other information is available here:

https://www.scca.com/events/1986572-2017-tire-rack-packwood-prosolo

They will have test starts today and maybe even a short coned course (seems to be becoming a "thing" ... a good idea I think).  Competition begins Saturday morning and continues through on Sunday with the shoot-out Challenges etc. on Sunday afternoon.

Technical Talk / KJ's A-Mod ...
« on: July 11, 2017, 02:33:51 PM »
Here's an interesting article on KJ's A-Mod ... the current Amod championship car with Marshall Grice at the wheel.  This is also the car that I drove in 2008 at Heartland Park in Topeka however, it is vastly different now due to all the work KJ and Marshall have put into it.

Have to see if Joe and Gary bring the Vancouver Special to Nats to do battle.   :)

SASC Events / Re: FM July 22 OPEN - LSCC event.
« on: July 11, 2017, 11:29:19 AM »
Our next event is July 23, however, if you want to get in two days on one weekend, you can also register and run on the day before on Saturday, July 22 at the Fort Macleod Airport with the Lethbridge Sports Car Club.

I ran with them last time and the course design was great and only 11 entries ... so we had our fill and were out of there by 3 pm ... a good day!  So I can definitely recommend this event.  I'm sure there will be more people this time but you will still get plenty of good seat time.

Other Events / Packwood Championship Tour
« on: July 06, 2017, 09:23:44 AM »
Packwood is this coming weekend with a number of competitors from Alberta headed down (as we speak in some cases) since it is about 12 hrs. of driving time from Calgary ... or about 2.5 hrs. SE of Seattle.

Packwood, of course, is the closest National level SCCA solo event to us and if you stick with this sport for any length of time, it is well worth your while to plan on attending one of them (or even Nationals - why not?) to see what they are about, how they run things, the cars, the competition, etc.  You can and will certainly experience a lot, learn a lot and also meet a whole bunch of other like-minded folks who are a great bunch of competitors and friends.

So look for live results, scoring etc. on SCCA Solo.live in the coming days.

There is a test and tune on Friday afternoon .... usually on the Friday morning Evolution has their school (they are a competitor to SoloPro of course) so there is that opportunity too.  Racing is Saturday and Sunday.

The Pro Solo is the weekend after - again, the closest Pro to us at the National level.

Here's a bunch of information on the Packwood Tour including those registered, schedule, run order, links for live timing/scoring etc. etc.:

General Discussion / Missing an Apple cord?
« on: July 05, 2017, 12:26:16 PM »
Almost forgot - picked it up on the sidewalk near grid where people spectate (near the washroom) ... at the WCMA YYC event.

The cord appears to be for an Apple device.

Let me know and I can bring it to the next event or whatever.  I live in the NW btw.

SASC Events / Help for course set-up Saturday afternoon.
« on: June 29, 2017, 12:05:12 PM »
This Saturday afternoon (Ambrose was thinking 3:30 pm or so ), we would like to setup the course for Sunday.

If anyone has time to volunteer to help set-up it would be great.  We need a few people and I notice we have quite a few entries already so this may turn out to be one of the bigger events thus far this season, therefore we can afford to make this your work assignment - setup and tear down.

So, let me know if you are available ... I believe we can use 4 people on top of Ambrose and I.

It takes about 2 hrs to setup the course so we should be done by about 5:30 pm.

I will be picking up the key on Friday some time so I may deliver a few cones for starter to the site at that time ... storage is sort of along the way for me and I might have a bit of help with me on Friday.
